Associate Director of Membership Communications
CA - Orange
Opportunity Overview
In a year of political and economic change, the world of medicine is also undergoing a facelift as we bid farewell to the old guard and pave the way for the next generation of doctors. We're looking for a tech-savvy sales professional who not only keeps a "pulse" on emerging trends (such as social networking/blogging), but also knows how to unlock technology's potential to help us attract and recruit this younger generation of doctors. This is an exciting time in health-care reform and we're seeking high impact players who are passionate about shaping the future of health policy.
Our current membership is 2,000 strong, but there are 6,000 practicing physicians in Orange County. As Associate Director of Membership, we will look to you develop innovative and engaging programs (both in-person and online) to increase our penetration rate from 25% to 50% or more. You will be the driving force behind our outreach activities as you embrace and clearly articulate our value proposition to physicians and medical students/residents and help us meet and exceed our membership goals for 2009.
To be a good fit for this opportunity you will bring a demonstrated track record of sales success, preferably with some background in fundraising and/or non-profits. Communication and creativity are at the heart of this role, and you will need the "emotional" intelligence to engage with the physician community as well as creative muscle to put together successful events. You'll also showcase self-initiative, flexibility and a "whatever it takes" spirit to achieve your goals independently in a small, entrepreneurial team environment.
The Orange County Medical Association (OCMA) is a non-profit voluntary organization that is designed to promote the science and art of medicine, the protection of public health, and the betterment of the medical profession. We serve as the "voice" of Orange County and California physicians as we advocate on behalf of physicians and patients to have their voices heard in health care legislation.
What Else You'll Bring to the Table
In addition to the qualifications outlined above, you will need:
- A Bachelor's degree in Marketing/Communications or related discipline.
- Minimum 3-5 years of demonstrated sales/customer service experience (we welcome recent grads).
- Solid project management skills to drive programs from concept to completion within budget and time constraints.
- Familiarity with email/internet/web communication tools; must have experience in database management and/or CRM programs.
- Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to build working relationships across diverse stakeholders.
- Flexible mind set to adapt to a constantly changing environment.
- Computer proficiency in a Microsoft office suite environment including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access.
What's in It for You
- Right time, right place to make an impact -- if you are passionate about public policy, quality of care and serving the indigent population, this role will put you at the center of the action. The work we do is exciting with an emotional component that truly touches lives and this role will go a long way in boosting our membership numbers that will impact our growth and reputation in the marketplace for years to come.
- Challenge & variety -- each day will bring an exciting stream of unique challenges, allowing you to flex your mental agility, evaluate "what if" scenarios, and rehearse contingency plans to ensure flawless program execution.
- Networking savvy -- if you don't already know "how to work a room", this role will allow you to build a robust business network as you meet and mingle with elite physician "movers and shakers" within Orange County.
- Career development -- you'll help shape your own role moving forward depending on your willingness to learn new functions and assume greater responsibilities.
- The "best of both worlds" -- we offer the stability of an established professional association, with nearly 122 years of success, as well as a highly entrepreneurial culture that rewards innovation and initiative.
- Empowerment -- while we have set membership goals in place, you'll enjoy considerable autonomy in figuring out the best processes to meet those goals and achieve success.
- Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary, we offer a rich benefits package that includes medical/dental coverage, 401(k) plan and more.
